I stayed at the Rutledge house and had probably the best experience of my life! Everyone there treated us fantastic. Think of it like a retreat where you can actually focus on yourself, without all of lifes hassles. I was in a dark place when I found this place. I am from Kentucky where places like this simply don't exist. They asked me some questions to make sure I qualified, and I'm glad I did! They helped me a lot and were able to get my medications right as well as give me a bunch of tools to help cope with society. They diagnosed me as well. I really can't speak highly enough. 5* for sure and I would add more if I could. If you're wanting to find yourself again and serious about your mental health, trust me, Don't hesitate!💯 😁 Edit: I went to the Murfreesboro location recently as well and feel obligated to express my appreciation there as well. Everyone treated me so nicely which allowed me to adjust and feel comfortable much faster. The staff was great as well as the amenities! These places allow smoking but in designated area so as to not interfere with people who do not choose to do so. A BIG thank you to everyone!!

Symptoms of PTSD

PTSD can affect people in various ways, including the following:

Reliving the traumatic event through intense memories or dreams.
Trying to avoid places, people, or activities that remind you of the trauma.
Feeling overly alert and on guard, as if danger is always present.
Feeling detached from others and losing interest in activities you used to enjoy.

The Four Symptom Clusters of PTSD

Clinicians group the experiences above into four recognized clusters, and the grouping matters because each cluster calls on a different part of care. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) reports that about 6 in every 100 people will experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) at some point in life, so nothing about what you are carrying is rare or shameful.

Symptom cluster

How it can show up

What helps

Intrusion

Unwanted memories, nightmares, or flashbacks arriving without warning

Trauma-focused therapy that establishes safety before processing begins

Avoidance

Steering around reminders until daily life quietly narrows

Gradual, well-paced work that widens your world again

Arousal and reactivity

Startling easily, staying on guard, sleeping poorly

Regulation skills, relaxation practice, and steady daily rhythm

Negative changes in thinking and mood

Guilt, self-blame, or feeling cut off from people you care about

Cognitive work that loosens distorted beliefs about the trauma

During your first assessment, a licensed clinician sorts out which clusters weigh heaviest for you, and the treatment plan takes its shape from that picture rather than from a template. Two people with identical diagnoses can need very different first steps, which is exactly why assessment comes before any schedule gets written.

Our Approach to Treating PTSD

At Nashville Mental Health, we use a comprehensive and personalized approach to treat PTSD. We combine therapeutic techniques, medical treatments, and holistic practices to support your recovery. Our treatment plan includes:

Individual Therapy

In-person sessions with a licensed therapist to help you process your trauma and develop coping strategies. These one-on-one hours move at your pace, because pushing too hard too early tends to make trauma symptoms louder rather than quieter.

Supportive group sessions where you can share experiences and learn from others who are going through similar challenges. Hearing your own story echoed by someone else in the room often does what no amount of reassurance can.

Focused sessions built specifically around traumatic memory, so processing happens with structure and support instead of by accident.

Therapy that helps you change negative thought patterns related to your trauma.

Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques

Practices to help you stay present and reduce anxiety. Simple grounding exercises give your nervous system a reliable route back to the present when reminders hit.

Medication Management

Our medical professionals can prescribe and manage medications to help balance your mood and reduce PTSD symptoms.

Where PTSD Care Happens: On-Site in Middle Tennessee or Online Across the State

Some symptoms can be worked on around a job and a household; others cannot. When flashbacks or hypervigilance have taken over the day, Residential Treatment offers a different kind of container: a warm home-like environment in the Murfreesboro area where clinical support stays close around the clock and nothing in the daily schedule pulls against recovery. Distance should never decide who gets help. The Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) carries structured trauma care over secure video to adults in every part of Tennessee, and both settings belong to the full continuum of mental health treatment our Nashville team provides.

Movement between the two settings is expected rather than exceptional. Many adults stabilize on-site first and keep their momentum through virtual sessions once home life resumes, while others begin online and step up when weekly structure proves too thin. Your clinical team makes that call with you, never for you.

Four Steps From First Call to First Session

1.Start the conversation

One call or one message reaches a real person, backed by 24/7 confidential support whatever the hour.

2.Confirm coverage

Share your policy details and admissions completes a quick insurance verification so costs are transparent before anything else moves.

3.Sit for an assessment

A licensed clinician reviews your history, current symptoms, and safety, then recommends the level of care that genuinely fits.

4.Step into care

When a situation cannot wait, same-day admissions keep the gap between deciding and starting as small as possible.

Ready to Begin Your Healing Journey?

Healing from PTSD is a challenging journey, but you don’t have to do it alone. At Nashville Mental Health, we support and guide you every step of the way. Our trauma-informed team offers effective treatment through evidence-based approaches, holistic therapies, and therapeutic modalities designed to help individuals manage symptoms of trauma, chronic stress, and emotional pain.

Complex PTSD, co-occurring Depressive Disorder, and the lasting weight of ongoing abuse all belong in this work, and each has a place in our PTSD treatment in Nashville. Sessions may pair Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) with structured group work and our holistic approach, meeting people whose trauma grew out of intimate relationships, adverse childhood experiences, cultural issues, or systemic oppression.

Frequently Asked Questions About PTSD Care

How long does residential PTSD treatment usually last?

Length of stay depends on symptom severity, trauma history, and how you respond to care, so no honest program promises a fixed number of days. Your team reviews progress weekly and adjusts the plan, guided by trauma-informed care principles about when to slow down and when to step forward. For most adults the question answers itself once progress becomes visible from week to week.

Can PTSD and depression be treated at the same time?

Yes, and treating them together usually works better than treating them separately, since trauma and low mood tend to feed one another. Our clinicians build one coordinated plan that can address depression alongside post-traumatic symptoms under a single treatment team.

Does insurance cover PTSD treatment in Nashville?

Most major PPO policies carry behavioral health benefits, and residential trauma care frequently falls within them. Rather than guessing at the paperwork, let admissions run a quick, confidential insurance verification – you will know exactly where your plan stands before deciding anything.

I live outside Nashville. Can I still work with your team?

Yes. Adults travel to the residential campus from Franklin, Davidson County, and communities throughout Middle Tennessee, while the virtual program reaches the rest of the state by secure video. Our Contact Us page is the simplest starting point from anywhere in Tennessee.

PTSD Treatment Near Me

A calm setting matters here. Our campus in the Murfreesboro area offers that while staying within easy reach of Nashville and the wider Middle Tennessee region. Adults elsewhere in Tennessee can connect through secure virtual sessions.
