I stayed at the Rutledge house and had probably the best experience of my life! Everyone there treated us fantastic. Think of it like a retreat where you can actually focus on yourself, without all of lifes hassles. I was in a dark place when I found this place. I am from Kentucky where places like this simply don't exist. They asked me some questions to make sure I qualified, and I'm glad I did! They helped me a lot and were able to get my medications right as well as give me a bunch of tools to help cope with society. They diagnosed me as well. I really can't speak highly enough. 5* for sure and I would add more if I could. If you're wanting to find yourself again and serious about your mental health, trust me, Don't hesitate!💯 😁 Edit: I went to the Murfreesboro location recently as well and feel obligated to express my appreciation there as well. Everyone treated me so nicely which allowed me to adjust and feel comfortable much faster. The staff was great as well as the amenities! These places allow smoking but in designated area so as to not interfere with people who do not choose to do so. A BIG thank you to everyone!!

Symptoms of Adult ADD

Adult ADHD can manifest in various ways, but here are common symptoms:

Struggling to focus on tasks, becoming easily distracted, and frequently making careless mistakes are hallmark signs of disorder in adults. This challenge can affect work performance, relationships, and overall quality of life.

Acting without thinking, interrupting others during conversations, and difficulty waiting for a turn in activities are common behaviors. Speaking or acting before an idea is fully formed can strain relationships and complicate decisions at work and at home.

Adults with ADHD may feel restless, exhibit constant movement, and struggle to sit still for extended periods. These symptoms in adults differ slightly from those seen in disorder in children but remain impactful.

Procrastination, difficulty prioritizing tasks, and frequently forgetting appointments or arriving late are significant challenges. Structured therapy gives adults concrete systems for planning, prioritizing, and following through.

Inattentive, Hyperactive-Impulsive, or Combined: The Three ADHD Presentations

ADHD does not look the same in every adult. Clinicians group symptoms into three presentations, and knowing which pattern fits you helps shape the therapies your plan leans on.

Presentation

What it often looks like in adults

How treatment helps

Predominantly Inattentive

Drifting focus, misplaced items, unfinished projects, quiet mental clutter that others rarely notice

Organizational systems, routine-building, and therapy focused on follow-through

Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive

Restlessness, interrupting, trouble waiting, choices made on impulse

Skills for pausing before acting and channeling energy productively

Combined

Meaningful features of both patterns at once

A blended plan that works on attention and impulse control together

Presentations can shift across a lifetime. Hyperactivity often softens with age while attention difficulties quietly persist, which is one reason a fresh evaluation matters even for adults who were first diagnosed as children.

ADHD Assessment and Testing in Nashville

Searching for ADHD testing usually means one of two things: you were never evaluated, or a childhood diagnosis needs a current look. The process here is thorough either way. A licensed clinician and our psychiatric team review your history, your present symptoms, and how those symptoms play out at work and at home. Because conditions such as anxiety and depression can mimic or mask attention problems, the evaluation screens for co-occurring concerns as well. Testing appointments are unhurried, and many adults finish the process within their first days on campus or over a handful of virtual visits. You leave with a clear picture and a concrete plan rather than a label and a pamphlet.

An assessment is a conversation, not a test you can fail. Contact Nashville Mental Health at (916) 587-6860 or visit our Contact Us page for a free, confidential assessment, with no pressure and no obligation.

Our Approach to Adult ADD/ADHD Treatment

At Nashville Mental Health, we take a comprehensive and individualized approach to treating adult ADHD, focusing on evidence-based methods to improve daily life and overall well-being. By combining behavioral therapy, medication management, and skill development, we address the unique challenges faced by adults with ADHD, including symptoms in adults such as difficulty with attention span, mood swings, and task management.

Behavioral Therapy

Our therapists help you develop strategies for time management, organizational skills, and task prioritization to manage common complaints like impulsivity and hot temper effectively. This approach is rooted in evidence-based techniques and tailored to address common presentations, including combined type and predominantly hyperactive-impulsive type ADHD.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Through CBT, we assist you in identifying and challenging negative thought patterns that contribute to depressive disorders and other mental health conditions. This therapy helps manage symptoms such as distractibility and impulsivity while promoting therapeutic effects for emotional regulation.

Medication Management

When medication belongs in your plan, our psychiatric providers handle the evaluation, the prescribing decisions, and the ongoing monitoring. Adjustments happen gradually and in conversation with you, so treatment stays matched to how you actually feel and function.

Skill Development

We emphasize building practical skills, including communication, problem-solving, and stress management, to enhance your ability to cope with life’s challenges. Practiced daily in a structured setting, these skills tend to hold up long after treatment ends.

Lifestyle Changes

Our team recommends integrating nutrition, regular exercise, and proper sleep hygiene into your routine to support overall health and optimize ADHD symptom management, as a well-rounded lifestyle can significantly enhance focus and emotional stability.

Supportive Group Therapy

In group sessions, you can connect with others facing similar challenges, share experiences, and learn beneficial treatment options. Group therapy fosters community and provides additional tools for managing ADHD and co-occurring conditions like major depression or comorbid depression.

Why Adults Choose Nashville Mental Health for ADHD Care

Choosing Nashville Mental Health for your adult ADD/ADHD treatment means you’re choosing a caring and experienced team dedicated to your well-being. Here’s why we stand out:
Expert Team

Our staff includes licensed therapists, counselors, and medical professionals with expertise in treating mental disorders like adult ADD and ADHD. Every diagnosis here begins with a careful clinical evaluation rather than a quick checklist.

Personalized Care

We create individualized treatment plans to address your specific challenges, from quietly drifting attention to restlessness that fills the whole day. Your goals and preferences shape that plan from the first session onward.

Comprehensive Services

From therapy to medication management, we offer a full range of services to support your mental health. Each element of your care, from group sessions to psychiatric oversight, is coordinated by one team under one roof.

Welcoming Environment

Our center fosters a supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere where you can feel comfortable discussing your concerns and working toward improvement. Difficulties with focus and impulsivity are met with patience and practical guidance, never judgment.

Why Round-the-Clock Structure Helps Adult ADHD

For adults whose routines have unraveled, living on-site changes the equation. Residential Treatment surrounds you with predictable days, consistent sleep, and clinicians close at hand, exactly the scaffolding ADHD makes hard to build alone. If responsibilities keep you rooted at home, the same structure arrives by secure video through our Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program, reaching adults in every region of Tennessee, Franklin included.

Both settings run on the same clinical playbook. Days follow a rhythm of individual sessions, group work, and rest, and regular progress reviews decide when stepping down makes sense. Moving between levels is a planned transition rather than a cliff, so gains made on campus carry into ordinary life.

From First Call to First Day

Starting adult ADHD treatment in Nashville takes four steps, and our admissions team walks beside you through each one.

1.Reach out anytime

Phones are answered around the clock. Tell us what daily life looks like right now; that is all the preparation you need.

2.Share your insurance details

Our team confirms your PPO benefits through insurance verification, often within hours and always at no cost.

3.Complete your assessment

A clinician sits down with you, weighs current symptoms against your history, and pinpoints the intensity of support that fits your life.

4.Choose your starting point

Settle onto our Murfreesboro-area campus or log in to virtual sessions, in some cases the very day you call.

Most people move through all four steps within a single afternoon. To prepare ahead, our what to bring checklist covers clothing, personal items, and the few things best left at home, and the weekly family program gives the people closest to you a defined role from the very first week.

What Recovery From Adult ADHD Can Look Like

Living with adult ADHD can be challenging, but with the proper support and treatment of attention deficit, it’s possible to thrive. At Nashville Mental Health, we help you navigate your journey toward a more fulfilling and productive life.

Care here pairs psychiatric support with hands-on therapeutic work: family sessions, relaxation practice, and strategies for managing frustration before it boils over. The aim is not only quieter symptoms but a daily life that simply runs better.

Adult ADD/ADHD Treatment FAQs

Can ADHD be diagnosed for the first time in adulthood?

Yes, and it happens often. Plenty of adults spent years blaming missed deadlines and mental clutter on personality rather than a treatable condition. A proper evaluation at any age opens the door to real strategies.

Will my PPO plan help pay for adult ADHD treatment?

Nearly every major PPO policy includes some level of coverage for care like ours, and the fine print varies plan to plan. Rather than guessing, send us your information and our insurance verification team can spell out what your policy covers, well before any decision is due.

What should I pack if I choose residential care?

Comfortable clothing, essential documents, and a few familiar touches from home. For a complete rundown, see our what to bring page before you pack. Since our campus is pet friendly, ask about arrangements for a companion animal when you call.

Does support continue after I go home?

It can, and for most people it should. Many adults step down from residential care into our Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program to keep the same therapeutic momentum by secure video, and loved ones can stay involved through our weekly family program.

Adult ADD/ADHD Treatment Near Me

Between appointments in Nashville and errands in Franklin, our Murfreesboro-area campus is never far out of the way for Middle Tennessee families. Adults living elsewhere in the state can skip the drive entirely and meet with us through secure virtual sessions.

One call to (916) 587-6860 answers any question about visiting, or take a look at the Middle Tennessee and statewide communities we welcome.
