I stayed at the Rutledge house and had probably the best experience of my life! Everyone there treated us fantastic. Think of it like a retreat where you can actually focus on yourself, without all of lifes hassles. I was in a dark place when I found this place. I am from Kentucky where places like this simply don't exist. They asked me some questions to make sure I qualified, and I'm glad I did! They helped me a lot and were able to get my medications right as well as give me a bunch of tools to help cope with society. They diagnosed me as well. I really can't speak highly enough. 5* for sure and I would add more if I could. If you're wanting to find yourself again and serious about your mental health, trust me, Don't hesitate!💯 😁 Edit: I went to the Murfreesboro location recently as well and feel obligated to express my appreciation there as well. Everyone treated me so nicely which allowed me to adjust and feel comfortable much faster. The staff was great as well as the amenities! These places allow smoking but in designated area so as to not interfere with people who do not choose to do so. A BIG thank you to everyone!!

Symptoms of Depression

The following are common symptoms of depression:

Feeling hollow, empty, or sad throughout the day, accompanied by intense sadness or suicidal feelings.

Losing interest in activities, even those once enjoyed, which is common in major depression.

Constant tiredness, even with adequate sleep, is a hallmark of depressive episodes.

Experiencing significant weight gain or loss due to poor dietary habits.

If depression has brought thoughts of suicide or self-harm, support is available at any hour of the day: call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. In an emergency, dial 911.

Types of Depression We Treat

Depression rarely looks the same twice. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) estimates that 21 million American adults lived through at least one major depressive episode in a single recent year, and behind that number sit several distinct forms of the condition. Identifying yours early gives depression treatment Nashville clinicians a sharper starting point.

Form of Depression

Common signs

Where care begins

Major Depressive Disorder

Low mood, lost interest, and exhaustion lasting two weeks or longer

Structured psychotherapy supported by psychiatric evaluation

Persistent Depressive Disorder

A quieter, long-running low mood that lingers for two years or more

Longer-arc therapy aimed at patterns, not just episodes

Seasonal-Pattern Depression

Symptoms that arrive and lift as the seasons change

Preparing coping structure ahead of the harder months

Postpartum Depression

Deep sadness, guilt, or detachment in the months after childbirth

Compassionate care that brings the whole family in

Overlap is common – low mood often travels with anxious thinking or broken sleep – and your plan accounts for the full picture from day one.

One call is enough to get real answers. Contact Nashville Mental Health at (916) 587-6860 or visit our Contact Us page for a free, confidential assessment, with no pressure and no obligation.

When Depression Needs More Than Weekly Therapy

There is a point where good outpatient therapy stops being enough, and recognizing it matters. Missed workdays stack up, mornings stop functioning, and the effort of holding everything together becomes its own exhaustion. Residential Treatment answers that moment with a different depth of support: full days of clinical care at our home-like campus in the Murfreesboro area, where meals, rest, and therapy all happen in one steady place.

Adults across Tennessee who cannot relocate for care can turn to the Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which brings scheduled group and individual sessions to a secure screen at home. Wherever you start, both options connect back to the broader mental health treatment continuum we offer in Nashville, and stepping between them is part of the design.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is depression?

Depression, also referred to as an affective disorder, is a common mental health condition marked by extreme sadness, lack of interest in daily activities, and difficulty managing daily tasks. It can also involve chronic symptoms such as excessive sleep, fatigue, and persistent feelings of hopelessness. Seeking mental health treatment is essential to improving quality of life.

2. How do I know if I need treatment for depression?

If you find it challenging to manage daily lives due to chronic issues such as distress tolerance problems, personality traits like heightened sensitivity, or disruptions in relationships and work, you may benefit from treatment for depression. Additionally, if you have a history of depression, baby blues, or substance abuse, reaching out to a healthcare provider or dedicated treatment center is recommended.

3. What types of therapy are available for treating depression?

At Nashville Mental Health, depression care draws on several forms of treatment, including:

  • Individual therapy and group therapy
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Holistic practices woven through the clinical schedule

These options are tailored to meet the treatment goals of each client and include structured hours of therapy.

4. Can depression be treated with medication?

Yes, medication is often a key part of managing depression. Treatment centers provide access to prescription medications through clinical staff who offer expert medication management. A licensed provider will review whether medication belongs in your plan and monitor how well it works over time.

5. How do I start the admissions process at a depression treatment center in Nashville?

To begin your journey to wellness, contact a dedicated treatment center like Nashville Mental Health. They will review your medical history, assess your symptoms, and create a personalized depression treatment plan. Many facilities also offer online forms for easy access to care. For additional resources, visit the National Institute of Mental Health.

5. 6. Does insurance cover depression treatment in Nashville?
